Back to One: Self Tape & Coach for iPhone and iPad.
Effective October 19, 2026
Back to One: Self Tape & Coach is made by SgtZaddy Productions, a sole proprietorship in California, United States. We are the controller of the personal data described here. This policy explains what the app does with information on your Apple device and when anything leaves it. Contact: support@sgtzaddy.com.
The camera and microphone are used only while you rehearse or record. Your takes, scripts, profiles, ratings, notes and settings are stored in the app's private storage on your phone. Speech recognition, which follows your lines and cues the reader, runs on the device. Your recordings and your own voice are never sent to us or to anyone else by the app. Lines you record for your own reader, or add from a file, are kept on your phone with your takes. They leave it only if you share them, to the app or person you choose. The app has no account or sign-in, we do not ask for your name or email address, and the app has no analytics or tracking of ours.
If you have All Access or a 3-Day Pass, the lines the AI voices read (the reader's lines, with any direction for how to say them, and the voice chosen) are sent from your phone to our voice service, which we run on Google Cloud in the United States, and from there to ElevenLabs, which turns them into speech. The lines you speak yourself are not sent. With each request the app sends the App Store's signed record of your purchase, so the service can check that the purchase is genuine and still running; that record states the product and the transaction's identifiers and dates, not your name, email address or payment details. We keep a record of how much of your allowance you have used and of top-ups and passes credited, filed under the App Store's identifier for the original transaction and a one-way hash of the signed record; the signed record itself is not stored. A line from a script you wrote or imported is passed to ElevenLabs to be voiced and is not kept by us. A line from one of the app's library scenes is the same for everyone, so its audio is kept on our service and reused; it is not linked to you. As with any internet service, your IP address reaches our service; it is used to limit abuse and appears in Google Cloud's request logs, which are kept for about 30 days. ElevenLabs handles the text as our service provider under its own terms and may keep it for a time to run and protect its service. So please do not put personal details about real people into scripts you have AI voices read.
With Pro or a Studio day you can instead connect your own account at a provider you choose, using your own API key. This is off until you turn it on. When you use it, the text needed for the request is sent directly from your device to that provider, not to us: the lines being spoken for AI voices (ElevenLabs, OpenAI or Google Cloud), with a short direction for how to say them, or the script text for parsing and scene writing (Google Gemini or OpenAI). Those providers handle the data under their own terms and privacy policies, and bill you through your key. We do not use the scene library, your scripts or your recordings to train AI models.
Keys you enter are stored in this device's keychain, available only on this device, and are sent only to the provider they belong to. Removing a key, or deleting and reinstalling the app, deletes it.
When you import a photo or scan of sides, text recognition runs on the device using Apple's Vision framework. The image is not sent anywhere.
An ad is shown only after you choose to watch one to start a Studio day, never in a child's profile, and never with Pro or All Access. So it can play at once, one may be loaded ahead while a grown-up has the Studio page open, once the ad privacy choice has been made. Google Mobile Ads and Google's consent platform may process device identifiers such as the advertising ID, your IP address (for approximate location), advertising data, diagnostics and your consent choices under Google's privacy policy. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland you are asked for consent before any of this happens, personalized ads are shown only if you agree, and you can change or withdraw your choice at any time from the Studio panel. On iPhone and iPad, iOS itself asks once whether the app may track you: ads are personalized with your device's advertising identifier only if you allow it, the ads work either way, and you can change your answer at any time in Settings, under Privacy & Security, Tracking, or from the app's Studio page.
Pro, All Access, the 3-Day Pass and top-ups are bought through the App Store, which takes the payment and handles tax. We do not receive your payment-card details. We receive from the App Store the signed record of the purchase: the product, the transaction's identifiers and, for subscriptions, the purchase and renewal dates. If you write to us about a purchase we also see what you send, such as your order number.
Where the GDPR, the UK GDPR or Swiss law applies, we rely on these grounds. To provide what you bought (voicing lines, counting your allowance, checking that a purchase is active): performance of our contract with you. To keep the service safe and its costs bounded (rate limits, request logs, stopping misuse): our legitimate interest in running a secure and sustainable service. To answer you when you write to us, including copyright requests: our legitimate interest in replying, and legal obligations where they apply. To keep purchase and tax records: legal obligation. Ads: your consent, collected by Google's consent platform. We do not make decisions about you by automated means that have legal or similar effects, and we do not build profiles of you.
Google Cloud (Firebase), which hosts our voice service and its records in the United States, as our processor. ElevenLabs, which voices the lines, as our processor. Apple, for purchases, and Google Mobile Ads, for optional ads, each under its own privacy policy. Our email provider, when you write to us. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for anyone else's advertising. We may disclose information if the law requires it.
We and our providers are in the United States, so information described above is processed there. For transfers from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland we rely on the provider's certification under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework (with its UK Extension and the Swiss-U.S. framework) where it has one, and otherwise on the European Commission's standard contractual clauses and the UK addendum in the provider's data processing terms. Where you send your lines to be voiced at your own request, the transfer is also necessary to perform our contract with you. You can ask us for more detail.
The usage record is kept while your subscription or pass is active and afterwards for as long as unused top-up reads remain or the record is needed to stop a free offer or pass being used twice, to deal with refunds and disputes, or to meet legal duties; then it is deleted or made anonymous. You can ask for it to be deleted sooner. Request logs are kept about 30 days. Stored audio of library lines is not personal data and is kept as long as it is useful. Emails are kept as long as needed to deal with the matter and for our records.
Wherever you live you can ask us what we hold about you and ask us to delete it. Under the GDPR, the UK GDPR and Swiss law you also have the right to access, correct, erase, restrict or object to our use of your personal data, to receive it in a portable form, and to withdraw consent at any time without affecting what was done before. Residents of California and other U.S. states have rights to know, correct and delete, and not to be treated differently for using them; we do not sell or share personal information as those laws define it. To use any of these rights write to support@sgtzaddy.com. Because the app has no account, we can find your usage record only with your App Store order number, so please include it. We answer within one month. You also have the right to complain to the data protection authority where you live, for example your national authority in the EU, the Information Commissioner's Office in the UK, or the FDPIC in Switzerland.
A take is copied out of the app only when you export it, to Files, in On My iPhone › Back to One, and to Photos if you allow the app to add to it, and shared only with the app or place you choose in Apple's share sheet when you press Send it.
If iCloud Backup, or a backup to a computer, is turned on for your device, Apple may include the app's data in it, under Apple's terms. Export any take you want to keep. You control backup in your device's settings.
The app is for people 13 and older. It offers child profiles so a parent or coach can set a rating ceiling for a younger child. Profile details stay on the device and are not collected by us. Ads are never shown in a child's profile, and purchases are not offered there. A child profile hears AI voices only where a parent has allowed them with the parent PIN, separately for library scenes and for the child's own scripts, within a monthly limit the parent sets; where a parent has allowed them, the reader's lines of the child's scene are sent to be voiced as described above, and nothing identifying the child is sent with them. AI script parsing and scene writing are not used in a child profile. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
If you contact us about a copyright concern, we use the name, contact details and message you send only to review and answer the request and to keep a record of it.
Everything the app sends is encrypted in transit. Our voice service accepts requests only with a valid purchase, stores purchase tokens only as one-way hashes, and its records cannot be read from outside the service.
Delete takes and scripts in the app, or delete the app to remove everything it has stored on your device. Exported videos in Photos, in Files › Back to One, or anywhere else you saved them are yours to keep or delete. To have your AI voice usage record deleted, write to support@sgtzaddy.com with your App Store order number.
If the app's handling of data changes, this policy will be updated and its effective date changed. Questions can be sent to support@sgtzaddy.com.
